Continuing with my lipstick collection, today I present to you two Silk Naturals lipstick arm swatches.

Located in Trumansburg, NY, Silk Naturals has been creating natural and vegan cosmetics batch by batch since 2006. Although the small indie company is mostly lauded for its affordable and highly-pigmented eyeshadows by Youtubers and natural beauty bloggers, it carries beautiful lipstick shades and formulas as well.

Silk Naturals offers several lipstickĀ and gloss formulas:

  • Organic vegan lipsticks
  • Slick sticks
  • Lip stains
  • Lip balms
  • Kisser Slicker – Lipgloss Sticks
  • Black Label and Nourish Luxury glosses
  • Amplifying Lip glazes
  • Velvet matte lipsticks
  • Hyper glosses

Of all these, I’ve only tried the velvet matte lipsticks, of which I have two in my collection. These lipsticks are pigmented and creamy, but once they apply they look nice and quite matte. I really like the velvety smooth feel of these lipsticks. They come in a slim, black tubes. Packaging is not where Silk Naturals shines. It doesn’t matter to me, as the formulation is one of the best out there, especially as Silk Naturals Velvet Matte lipsticks are just $5.99 each!

Swatched outside on a typical sunny day – Left: Silk Naturals Velvet Matte Lipstick in Canoodle, a plummy “nude” Right: Silk Naturals Velvet Matte Lipstick in Marsala, a deep, brownish plum red.

These are great on-the-go lipsticks – pop them in your purse, apply anywhere. They are semi-matte, but not drying, and have good staying power. They are fun to put on and not fussy. I think Silk Naturals are perfect for travel! Here’s another comparison of the two shades in sunlight:

On me, Canoodle is a light, plummy nude indeed, which looks subtle and is great for wearing running errands, at the beach, and doing almost anything!

Indoors: left, SN Canoodle. Right, Marsala.

On me, Marsala looks exactly like it’s supposed to be – a deep, sultry color which gives a depth I don’t get with a lot of lip shades. Although it says on the Silk Naturals site that Marsala is a good my-lips-but-better (MLBB) on deeper tones, my tone is not deep enough – more of a medium-deep tan, so I’m happy to report I have a more “vampy” look when I wear this wonderful shade.

Indoors, with flash: Canoodle and Marsala, from left to right.

Both Canoodle and Marsala ingredients: Fractionated coconut oil, Castor Oil, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Jojoba Oil, Candelilla Wax, Carnauba Wax, Vanilla scented fractionated coconut oil. Also contains: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Manganese Violet

The shades Canoodle and Marsala don’t, but be aware that some lipsticks contain carmine (crushed up red beetles) and some even contain a small amount of FD&C. However, there are plenty of vegan and dye-free options to search from.

What I’m Lusting After: August 2017 Edition

Would you believe summer is almost over? Not in the seasonal sense, because the heat down here is going to punish us for another few months – sigh. However, our local public school’s starting in a little more than a week.

Of course, in addition to caring for my household and family, I’ve been thinking of adding some beauty products for this fall – my favorite season ever. I also adore fall colors! Without further ado, here are the natural beauty products I’m lusting after, in August:

Elusive by Axiology – described as a burgundy-drenched tone, it looks amazing on many skin tones. $30 a pop – curious on how it applies from the gorgeous tube.
Infinite by Axiology – a rich mulberry stain with a dark violet base, with hints of black and brown – how can I resist?
Bam Vegan Lipstick by Silk Naturals – perfect for Halloween, and beyond. Described on its site as rich, creamy, pigmented black lipstick. Bam!
Notion by Silk Naturals – a deep warm peach – I’ve never owned a shade like this, especially as on its site, SN claims this doesn’t turn orange – consider me intrigued.
90s by Silk Naturals. A Velvet Matte Lipstick too, it may just become my favorite brown nude. Having been a teen throughout the nineties, I feel the nostalgia as well.

Strawberry Blond by Silk Naturals. This medium peachy shade with golden highlights is just what I need to complete my eye shadow lid collection. At only $4.50 for a 3/4 teaspoon in a 5-gram sifter, I’ll be set for a good, long while.

Antidote by Silk Naturals – a beautiful, nearly brown burgundy red. Just what I needed to complement the rest of my eye shadows.

And that was all, folks. Let me know in the comments which one you like the most.
