Continuing with my lipstick collection, today I present to you two Silk Naturals lipstick arm swatches.
Located in Trumansburg, NY, Silk Naturals has been creating natural and vegan cosmetics batch by batch since 2006. Although the small indie company is mostly lauded for its affordable and highly-pigmented eyeshadows by Youtubers and natural beauty bloggers, it carries beautiful lipstick shades and formulas as well.
Silk Naturals offers several lipstick and gloss formulas:
- Organic vegan lipsticks
- Slick sticks
- Lip stains
- Lip balms
- Kisser Slicker – Lipgloss Sticks
- Black Label and Nourish Luxury glosses
- Amplifying Lip glazes
- Velvet matte lipsticks
- Hyper glosses
Of all these, I’ve only tried the velvet matte lipsticks, of which I have two in my collection. These lipsticks are pigmented and creamy, but once they apply they look nice and quite matte. I really like the velvety smooth feel of these lipsticks. They come in a slim, black tubes. Packaging is not where Silk Naturals shines. It doesn’t matter to me, as the formulation is one of the best out there, especially as Silk Naturals Velvet Matte lipsticks are just $5.99 each!
These are great on-the-go lipsticks – pop them in your purse, apply anywhere. They are semi-matte, but not drying, and have good staying power. They are fun to put on and not fussy. I think Silk Naturals are perfect for travel! Here’s another comparison of the two shades in sunlight:
On me, Canoodle is a light, plummy nude indeed, which looks subtle and is great for wearing running errands, at the beach, and doing almost anything!
On me, Marsala looks exactly like it’s supposed to be – a deep, sultry color which gives a depth I don’t get with a lot of lip shades. Although it says on the Silk Naturals site that Marsala is a good my-lips-but-better (MLBB) on deeper tones, my tone is not deep enough – more of a medium-deep tan, so I’m happy to report I have a more “vampy” look when I wear this wonderful shade.
Both Canoodle and Marsala ingredients: Fractionated coconut oil, Castor Oil, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Jojoba Oil, Candelilla Wax, Carnauba Wax, Vanilla scented fractionated coconut oil. Also contains: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Manganese Violet
The shades Canoodle and Marsala don’t, but be aware that some lipsticks contain carmine (crushed up red beetles) and some even contain a small amount of FD&C. However, there are plenty of vegan and dye-free options to search from.
