Lipstick Collection + Arm Swatches Part 1: Red Apple Lipstick

As many of you know, I’m devoted to non-toxic beauty. It’s a joy to use these products – they smell, feel, and perform nicely, and they’re not tested on animals. I feel good about using these products and don’t hesitate to pass one on to my preteen daughter if I thought it would suit her better.

As lipstick is my favorite makeup product, I’ve decided to write a series of posts about my lipstick collection. I have more than a dozen lipstick shades, which include samples I haven’t used up yet (I’m not including the ones I didn’t like and passed on to my daughter).

I have listed my favorite beauty companies in a previous post,  Clean Dozen: My Current Top 12 Nontoxic Beauty Brands. One of these brands was and continues to be Red Apple Lipstick. In addition to clean ingredients, Red Apple Lipstick is gluten-free, which is lovely for those who are allergic to gluten. Lord knows I already consume enough gluten in my diet, so not having gluten in my lipstick is a plus 😉

For this post, I swatched my full tubes of Red Apple Lipstick. I have a total of eight – I swatched them on my arm and my husband’s arm. For reference, I have medium-to-deep tan skin with a warm undertone, and I wear the 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Foundation Powder in Golden Peach or the Lily Lolo Mineral Foundation SPF 15 in the shade Coffee Bean.

My husband is lighter skinned, leaning more toward medium toned with a warm undertone, and although he doesn’t usually wear foundation (ha!), I bet he’d be a 100% Pure Foundation Powder in Sand or Lily Lolo’s In the Buff.

I own the following Red Apple Lipstick colors:

  1. Ooh La-La (a pinky brown – not my favorite – looks grayish on me)
  2. Ravishing (a crimson, blue-toned red – my power lip)
  3. Plum Sexy Crazy (a copper, red plum shimmery shade – a favorite)
  4. After Hours (a deep, cool purple, no shimmer – I like it)
  5. Mayberry (medium, dusty rose w/ a sheen – my MLBB!)
  6. Wine & Dandy (deep, red wine – I love this color!)
  7. Coral Crush (a true coral, pinkish orange – a bit too bright for me, but blotted is fine)
  8. Back to the Fuchsia (best name! A bold, satiny purple-fuchsia shade)

Now off to swatching!

On my husband’s arm, outdoors, no flash, from left to right: Red Apple Lipstick in Ooh La-La, Ravishing, Plum Sexy Crazy, After Hours, Mayberry, Wine & Dandy, Coral Crush, Back to the Fuchsia

Notice how on him Ooh La-La looks more like a nude pinky tone, whereas on me it leans browner.

On hubbie’s arm, outdoors, flash, from left to right: Red Apple Lipstick in Ooh La-La, Ravishing, Plum Sexy Crazy, After Hours, Mayberry, Wine & Dandy, Coral Crush, Back to the Fuchsia

Ravishing looks more brownish on his skin. On me, it leans dark, pink-red. Back to the Fuchsia really pops.

On husband’s arm, indoors, no flash, from left to right: Red Apple Lipstick in Ooh La-La, Ravishing, Plum Sexy Crazy, After Hours, Mayberry, Wine & Dandy, Coral Crush, Back to the Fuchsia

Plum Sexy Crazy looks quite light and Mayberry looks so brown on him.

Note how Ooh La-La takes on a greyish tone, and Plum Sexy Crazy looks like a sultry, pinkish plum with shimmer on me – really nice shade on me. After Hours looks brighter than on hubby, and in the sunlight, Coral Crush looks almost unbearable. As of now, I blot it or mix it with my sample of Naughty (a tan nude) or something else to tone it down. It tends to look garish with my skin tone if I swipe it full-on.

I love the way Back to the Fuchsia looks. I’ll have to provide y’all with lip swatches some time.

Coral Crush looks used with its flat top, but in reality, I’d shaved it off a bit to take it to Aruba with me on vacation, as per Red Apple Lipstick’s recommendations so as it not having a risk of melting in the heat.
I love my Red Apple Lipstick collection! In the future, when I’ve used up oh, three or four of these, I’m planning on acquiring Drama, Barcelona, Hibiscus, and Hollypeño.
Cute packaging! I like the ridges on the bottom, which makes holding it easier.
From far left to right, top to bottom, counter-clockwise: Back to the Fuchsia, Wine & Dandy, Coral Crush, Ravishing, Ooh La-La, Plum, Sexy Crazy, Mayberry, and all the way in the far back, After Hours.

I highly recommend Red Apple Lipstick, especially if you’re sensitive to gluten. I gifted my dear GF friend some samples (the shade Secrets suited her pale skin perfectly), and she was thrilled! I also gave some to another friend, with more medium skin, and she particularly liked Oh My Guava.

RAL lipsticks have a pleasant, light scent, and they wear nicely. If you blot and put on with a lip brush, they last at least four hours, but they are so fun to use, I do enjoy reapplying on almost all occasions.

Which Red Apple Lipstick shade would you most like to try?
